The Midnight Music Program is a citywide music program that provides children with the opportunity to learn how to express themselves innovatively through music.  The Program provides support and mentorship to children, youth, and teens as they develop leadership skills.

Midnight Music's mission is to revitalize the youth 's education by providing music programs in safe and enjoyable settings, keeping them off the streets during critical hours. The Midnight Music program was funded in the 2001-2002 fiscal year with "add-back" funds sponsored by former Supervisor Mark Leno and the Mayor's office.  Since then, this program under San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, has really taken off and has revitalized music in San Francisco.

The program keeps growing every year with lessons, concerts, road shows and outings. In 2002, Midnight Music provided access to musical and cultural education, and musical outings to approximately 7,000 young people ages 1 to 17 in San Francisco. Studies show that student's involvement in a music program contributes vitally to his or her whole education. Music develops critical thinking; self discipline skills, and improves a child's early cognitive development, basic match and reading abilities, self-esteem, teamwork abilities and school attendance.

Midnight Music provides vital cultural and educational opportunities not often available to low income youths, many of whom come from low literacy and non-English speaking families served by the Recreation and Park Department. Our music programs are free of charge and in many of the music lessons, instruments are provided.

Midnight Music is an umbrella of 4 amazing programs:
